(XMas 2012 with my two awesome boys)
My name is Martin Linklater and this is my website. I am a game programmer and game creator. My first job as a professional game developer was back in 1993 for a company called Psygnosis in the UK. I got that job after I graduated university with a B.Sc. in Computer Science. Since then I’ve been a full time game developer and have worked for a number of cool companies like Bizarre Creations, Sony Studio Liverpool, Evolution Studios, Playrise Digital and Lucid Games. I was also a founding member of a small game developer called Curly Monsters, which wrote games from Microsoft and Infogrammes. I’m currently employed at Lucid Games, based in Liverpool, UK.
I’ve been mad keen on games and programming since the late 70’s when I was a kid. My first proper console was an Atari 2600 and I taught myself programming when I was 10 years old on a Sinclair ZX81. I spent a lot of time as a kid hacking the old 8-bit systems like the Commodore 64 and generally playing every game I could get my hands on. I did pretty well at my exams and went on to study Maths, Physics and Art at College. Then after that I did a Computer Science honours degree and landed a job at Psygnosis.
I’m a huge games fan and general geeky kind of bloke. I’m a big believer in always learning new things to keep yourself relevant and sharp. Outside of games and game programming I love reading sci-fi and non-fiction books, and have a bit of a soft spot for simulators… mainly flying and driving. I run quite a bit and have done a few half marathons. I like watching motor sport on TV and tinkering around with my Cintiq, Raspberry Pi and Arduino.
Oh yeah, I also spend an awful lot of time having fun with my two boys and wonderful wife… 8)
